My ADT Alarm

How does my ADT Alarm work?

I have broadband. Will my internet connection be affected?

What are Key Holders and Key Holder Response?

How does the Police Response work?

I've got pets. Are ADT Alarms pet friendly?

How does the Fire Response Work?

ADT Alarms are a complete intrusion detection system that protects your home or business from possible thieves or attacks of criminal activity 24hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year. With an ADT Monitored Alarm you get a complete comprehensive service that includes Police Response, Fire Response, and Key Holder Response. ADT will also provide you with routine inspections of your alarm system every six months making sure you are always protected. You are also guaranteed a 4 hour response time for any emergency call-outs subject to contract with access to ADT's 24hr support services when you need it most.

How does my ADT Alarm work?

When your alarm is set, various sensors installed around your premises at high vulnerability areas are constantly monitoring change of activity. If for any reason any sensor is triggered e.g. someone walks past a motion sensor, your alarm system sends a signal down your telephone line to ADT's ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre). ADT will pickup the signal sent from your alarm system and call the relevant emergency service on your behalf. If it is a confirmed alarm (2 independent sensors going of within 2mins), ADT will call the police on your behalf. If your smoke sensor goes off, ADT will call the Fire Response on your behalf. If only one sensor is triggered, ADT will contact your key-holders.

I have broadband. Will my internet connection be affected?

NO. We install ADSL Broadband filters for alarm systems so your internet will not get affected.

What are Key Holders and Key Holder Response?

When you have an ADT Monitored alarm installed, you have to nominate between 2 to 6 key-holders. These are basically people you trust and are within 20miniutes from your premises that will hold a set of keys. ADT will contact your key-holders in the event of an emergency.

How does the Police Response work?

If you have a confirmed alarm (2 independent sensors being triggered within 2mins) ADT will contact the police on your behalf. This will give you police response.

I've got pets. Are ADT Alarms pet friendly?

ADT alarms can be tailored to work around your pets. If pets are allowed to stray into those areas which are protected by a movement detector, they are likely to cause your system to activate. We will be pleased to provide advice or to arrange a free visit to review your system. If you have pets, we recommend they are kept in an environment (nomally the kitchen area) over night where we can install a door contact on your back door instead of a motion sensor therefore, you pet can move freely without triggering off your alarm.

How does the Fire Response Work?

If your smoke sensor goes off, your ADT alarm will send a signal to ADT's Alarm Receiving Centre where it is being monitored. As soon as they see that your smoke sensor has been triggered, they will contact the Fire Response on your behalf.

Security Tips Inside Your Home:

  • Ensure your doors have adequate locks - protect doors with dead bolt locks. Statistics show that 80% of all break-ins are through a door.
  • Secure all your sliding glass doors with a metal bar or wooden dowel placed in the door track.
  • Close and lock your doors and windows - even if you are only going out for a short time.
  • Don't leave valuables in sight through windows where burglars can see them.
  • Don't leave keys in their locks - ensure they are put away, even if you are at home.
  • Ensure that all ground and basement windows are fitted with locks.
  • Use a security marker pen to mark your postcode on your property - this will enable the police to return any stolen property to you. Make an inventory and keep the list in safe place.
  • Light up inside your home - ensure that you have appropriate lighting. This is one of the most cost-effective deterrents to burglary as it gives the impression that a home is occupied.
  • Invest in an ADT monitored home security system - alarm systems are an effective deterrent.
  • ADT's Monitored Security Systems provide peace of mind through 24-hour monitoring and can contact the Police or Fire Brigade where appropriate.

Security Tips Outside Your Home:

  • Light up the outside of your home - in addition to keeping your home well lit, invest in motion-detecting outdoor floodlights around your home.
  • Maintain your garden - ensure that your back and front gardens provide maximum visibility to and from your home.
  • Tree limbs should also be trimmed to prevent thieves from climbing into windows.
  • Lock away garden tools - ensure ladders and garden tools are out of sight and secure them to prevent burglars from using them to break into your home.
  • Ensure your garage door is secure - especially if there is an adjoining door into your house.
  • Keep garden gates locked.
  • Fit a trellis on top of garden fences - this makes it more difficult for burglars to climb into your garden.
  • Never leave door keys under the doormat or under a plant pot outside.

Fire Tips for The Home:

  • Ensure you have a working smoke alarm.
  • Never leave candles unattended and make sure they are in holders that won't fall over.
  • Unplug all lights at night.
  • Don't run wires under carpets or rugs.
  • Don't overload plug sockets - no more than three plugs should be used on any one extension cord.
  • Plan an escape route for you and your family.
