Home security is important

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

While establishing some kind of home security system often ranks near the top of the to-do list for people who have just bought a new home, it is often way down the list for those who have lived in the same property for some years and who have never had any kind of home security system.

Home Office Statistics show that domestic burglary still accounts for a large proportion of all crimes committed in the United Kingdom. It seems strange then that so many people to not think to do anything until either they, or someone they know is robbed.

Fitting home security is not as onerous as it may feel and it is really quite simple to find a reliable firm, like ourselves at SecurityCAM, who can undertake the work on your behalf. You will need to discuss what the best solutions could be before you have any work done, as it would be foolhardy to install a system that was not going to work in the best way for your lifestyle.

You may just need a system with motion sensors linked to an external alarm, or it may be better to have something that was linked directly to the police station or to a security firm. Perhaps it may even be that you want a CCTV system setting up around your property for total security. It is best to bring in a firm of security experts to assess your needs rather than make the wrong decisions and advice always means that your decisions can be informed ones.

No need to be alarmed

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

The most effective way of keeping a burglar out of any home is to install good quality burglar alarms. The police describe regular burglars as career burglars and they are responsible for a good proportion of all domestic robberies.

A career burglar knows the difference between a good alarm and a poor quality one, and takes it into consideration when deciding which house to burgle. They can also spot a cheap fake and are quite likely to burgle a property with one of these on the wall. The statistics on domestic robbery show that while the numbers may go up and down a few percent every quarter, they are pretty stable – and that means rather high.

Here at SecurityCAM we are accredited by the National Standards Inspectorate and the police to supply and install burglar alarms at both domestic and commercial properties. For you this means that we only supply ADT approved alarms and that all our staff have had police screening, so you are safe to let us install your burglar alarm system.

Whichever company you choose you need to make sure that they offer a full package of not only the alarms but also inspections and technical back up should this ever be required. Of course there is a lot more to burglar alarms than a box with a bell in it on the wall. You need to discuss your requirements fully so that your home security system works for you, after all you don’t want to be woken in the night by the cat walking about.

Keep your car safe

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

As a nation we are possibly more security conscious about our cars than we are about our houses. The majority of us wouldn’t even dream of leaving our cars unlocked when we pop into a shop, even when we are parked directly outside it. Equally, most of us would not even think about locking our houses when we were outside in the greenhouse, for instance. Cars, of course, have their own built-in security systems which are, in the main, factory fitted. They are automatically alarmed and immobilised at the click of a button making them safe when we park them in our garage at night.

Interestingly they are not as safe as you would think. A study using a reformed car thief showed that from a whole range of different cars fitted with alarms, crook locks, or home made safety devices, the ones that took longest to steal were the ones with a home-made device.

It is logical really, after all a professional thief will have bought and practiced on virtually everything on the market that relates to car safety. However, put your car in a garage at night and it is another barrier to the thief and here at SecurityCAM, we know that if you install burglar alarms on a garage then all but the most determined car thief will leave your car well alone. Combine this with CCTV cameras and a burglar is extremely unlikely to attempt anything.

Depending on the location of your garage, it can be possible to fit an ADT alarm that covers both your garage and your home, or CCTV security cameras to cover both.

How to make your home secure

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Gone are the days when we could all leave our doors unlocked, night or day, and expect not to get burgled. Domestic burglary has increased over the years and though it has its ups and downs, it never goes away. Now you could be the victim of a career burglar, that is to say, one who steals from other people’s homes for a living. Generally they are quite selective about who they burgle and will carry out several robberies in the same area on the same night. Or, you could be the victim of an opportunist thief. This type steal when they see the opportunity arise, they may not go out intending to steal but if the possibility arises then they will take it. In a nutshell, home security is essential at all times.

How you go about setting up your home security can vary from making sure that you close the windows and lock the doors when you go out to a full CCTV system.

Here at SecurityCAM we find that most of our clients start by fitting a door chain and window locks and then supplement that with good quality burglar alarms. It is as well to make sure that you buy your burglar alarm systems from a reliable source. We, like any good security company are ADT approved for the supply and installation of burglar alarms. Using any company with ADT approval means that you can be confident about both the equipment and the installer.

Patrol your perimeters

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Any commercial or industrial property can be a magnet for intruders. Unfortunately non-domestic burglary is quite common, and while insurance may cover any losses or damage the inconvenience can present you with a major problem. The easiest thing to do is make sure that your security is sufficient and working correctly. Premises that are not properly covered are often the ones that are targeted by the career burglar, simply because there are reduced risks in breaking in. Simply having burglar alarms set up, although essential, may not be adequate.

Installing CCTV security systems will provide good additional security, regardless of the size of the business premises. Once the cameras are set up at strategic points on the perimeter and at possible points of entry they can be easily monitored. This can be done on-going, for instance if you have security guards on the premises at night they can monitor live screens, or you can have the cameras set up so they can be monitored off the premises – often they just act as a deterrent. For a smaller business you may prefer to have CCTV security cameras simply recording what is happening so that you can check it in the morning.

Our years of experience here at SecurityCAM have taught us that there are as many security solutions as there are clients. No two premises are exactly the same and no two customers want the same levels of security. This is why we offer a no obligation site visit to assess the needs of any company and discuss the correct solutions for their CCTV security.
