Burglar Alarms- Trust Your Fitter

One of the things that many people worry about when it comes to fitting a burglar alarm is whether they can trust the company that’s installing the alarm for them. It’s an understandable concern – a burglar alarm is a financial investment, but it’s protecting your home and your family, and you don’t want anyone else knowing your key code or being able to access your home without your permission.

A company you can trust

Fortunately, if you choose a well-established and authorised company, you know you can trust the specialists that install your system. When you are deciding on someone to install your burglar alarm, make sure you look for:

  • An authorised dealer – if the alarm company is fitting a particular type of burglar alarm, make sure they are authorised to do so by the alarm makers. This authorisation usually means that the company has been checked out by the manufacturers and that they are happy for their systems to be installed by the firm. If there are any doubts, ring the alarm makers direct and check if they have had contact with the company you’re considering.
  • An NSI member – the NSI is the National Security Inspectorate. It is an independent body that inspects and authorises companies that install and maintain security systems such as burglar alarms. Membership of the NSI isn’t compulsory for burglar alarm companies, but it does show that they take their work seriously and that they are regularly audited by the body to ensure that their work and their systems are up to the approved standard.
  • Meeting standards – a good burglar alarm company will make sure that its systems and its installations meet the relevant British and European standards. These standards are rigorously researched and set in order to protect consumers and it’s important that your alarm meets these standards.

Above all, it’s important that you talk to the companies you are considering. You will often be able to tell which companies are competent and which may not give you the service you’re looking for.
