Your burglar alarm should be as individual as your home. That’s why you need to talk to an expert before you commit to buying a system.
Finding the best burglar alarm
The best burglar alarm isn’t necessarily the most expensive or the most high-tech system. It’s the one that works best for your property and the way you use it. That’s why it makes sense to ask someone to come and survey your property and design a burglar alarm system that will give you value for money and quality performance. Here are some of the things you should consider:
- Entry to your property – which entry do you use most – the front door or the back door? Do you have other people, such as cleaners, or people who work for your business that come and go as they please? Which entrances do they use? This will help a professional to decide what sort of entry sensors you need, and where the control panel should be placed.
- Other ways into your property – do you have French windows, or old window frames with no window locks? Burglars look for the easy way in, and your burglar alarm system will need to take those into consideration.
- Sensors – how well-covered do you want your property to be? Do you just want one motion sensor in your hallway and one upstairs, or do you want each room to have a separate sensor? The fewer sensors you have, the more risk there may be of a burglar bypassing them, although this does depend on the layout of your home.
- Pets – if you have pets and you leave them to roam your house whilst you’re out, you will want to consider motion sensors that are pet-friendly. These sensors allow you pets to move around freely without triggering the alarm.
- Smoke alarms – your burglar alarms can have an integral smoke alarm system which triggers the alarm at certain levels of smoke.
- Response – do you want your alarm just to have audible internal and external bells or do you want it to be linked to a monitoring station so that the police or fire service can be alerted?
